The Young Dubliners

Friday, July 25, 2008

Advance Tix: $15.00
At the Door: $20.00

Doors Open: 6:30PM
Showtime: 7:30PM

The group's origins can be traced back to Los Angeles' vibrant pub scene in which Dublin natives Keith Roberts (vocals, guitar) and Paul O'Toole first met. Roberts was composing some Irish ballads at the time and thought a band might be in the offing. The Young Dubliners grew into a pugnacious music machine resulting in their debut, the Rocky Road EP (1994). It exhibited a hefty rock sound that made them a club favorite. Breathe followed a year later with the addition of Chas Waltz (violin, keys, harmonica, etc). By 2000, the band had morphed into a septet without O'Toole. The presence of the band sky-rocketed: The band spent much of 2001 touring Europe with Jethro Tull. In 2002 the band scaled back to a five-piece - Roberts, Brendan Holmes (Bass), Waltz, Bob Boulding (guitar) and David Ingraham (drums). Opening Act: ANDY WHITE www.andywhite.com He is an amazing singer / songwriter from Ireland with a loyal following here in the states. He has full label support from Wildflower Records, and Crysalis Music.

Beoga

Friday, September 19, 2008

Advance Tix: $15.00
At the Door: $20.00

Doors Open: 6:00PM
Showtime: 7:30PM

Beoga are a five-piece traditional band based in County Antrim. The band was drawn together after ‘jamming’ in a ferocious music session at the All-Ireland Fleadh in August 2002. Their unique sound features the twin duelling accordians of Seán Óg Graham and Damian McKee, along with four times All-Ireland bodhrán champion Eamon Murray and pianist Liam Bradley. In 2005, Beoga were nominated by Irish Music Magazine for the best traditional newcomer’s award. With the addition of one of Ireland’s premier young singers, Niamh Dunne, Beoga look set to confirm their reputation as one of the most exciting acts to emerge from Ireland in recent years. The bedrock of Beoga’s music lies firmly within the Irish tradition, but they are not afraid to incorporate other genres’ nuances into their music. From bluesy riffs to Astor Piazzola-style jazz, to a raunchy New Orleans jamboree vibe, their music always returns to a wonderfully bouncy traditional sound. With a repertoire of fresh self-penned tunes and inventive arrangements, the debut album 'a lovely madness' earned 9/10 in Ireland’s Hot Press magazine and was in the list of Top Trad/Folk Albums of the year.

NewFound Road

Friday, November 14, 2008

Advance Tix: $15.00
At the Door: $20.00

Doors Open: 6:30PM
Showtime: 7:30PM

The music of NewFound Road is marked by a refreshing clarity – a sense of honesty and purpose rarely heard in today’s bluegrass. For with the increased popular interest in bluegrass music has come an increased willingness to sweeten and tamper: maybe a touch of percussion here, a pedal steel there, a little piano on the chorus. Yet with their visceral, road-honed attack and disarming purity of vision, NewFound Road are a vivid reminder of the power inherent in undiluted, stripped-down bluegrass. This unflinching immediacy is bolstered by a wide range of stylistic influences, the presence of three remarkably soulful vocalists, and strong in-house songwriting talent, making NewFound Road among the most dynamic and thrilling contemporary bluegrass bands on today’s thriving scene.

Friday, February 06, 2009

Advance Tix: $18.00
At the Door: $23.00

The Circus is coming back to Town. If you missed them in 2008 mark your calendar and come on down. The quirky quartet then began touring throughout the northeast and rapidly developed a fiercely loyal, all-ages following. Featured recently in Relix Magazine, the New York Times and on the CBS hit show, Joan of Arcadia, the band's charismatic live performances and whimsical blend of folk, rock, hillbilly and pop have simply captivated audiences and critics alike. Their much celebrated new release "Flapjacks from the Sky" has garnered high praise from music writers, sparked generous activity at radio, and continues to invoke wave after wave of enthusiastic response from music fans world-wide. The music of Slambovia has been described as "Hillbilly-Floyd, folk-pop", "alt-country roots-rock, and "surreal Americana".
